Create and publish a poll

Create a poll from a template or from scratch, set who sees results, and publish it to get a shareable link.

Updated . 2 min read.

Create a poll

  1. Open Polls and choose New poll (or Create your first poll if you have none).
  2. Pick a template to open the builder with a ready-made question, or fill in Name under Blank poll and choose Create poll.
  3. If your workspace has several projects, choose the Project the poll belongs to.

New polls are drafts. Only you can see a draft; the public link does not work until you publish.

Edit the question

The builder has four tabs: Edit, Preview, Share & Embed, and Results. In Edit you write the question and its choices. Use Preview to see exactly what voters will see before you publish. Earlier published versions can be restored from the version history.

Change the poll settings

From the poll page choose Settings. You can set:

  • Name, Description, and an optional URL slug.
  • Results visibility - After voting, Always visible, or Hidden (only you see results in the dashboard).
  • Allow optional comment with vote and its Comment label.
  • One vote per visitor and Show total vote count on results.
  • Close at - after this time visitors see a closed message instead of the poll.
  • Password protection - visitors must enter the password before viewing or voting.
  • Spam protection - a honeypot is always on; you can also require hCaptcha or run Akismet on comments.

The poll page also has quick switches for Show results after voting and One vote per person that save immediately.

Publish

  1. In the builder, choose Publish and confirm Publish this poll?.
  2. Formspring checks that the poll has exactly one vote question. If not, you will see "Add exactly one vote question before publishing."
  3. Once published, the poll is Live and anyone with the link can vote.

Stop voting

  • Close voting now on the poll page ends voting. Results stay, and you can reopen the poll at any time by publishing again.
  • Unpublish in the builder turns the public link back into a draft notice. Existing votes are kept.
